Frequently asked questions
Short answers about splits, donations, storage, and how to use the app. Still stuck? Reach us at hello@stemsplits.com.
- Is it really free?
- Yes. Completely free, no subscription and no credit card. The app is funded by voluntary donations that cover the GPU and server costs. Donations unlock nothing; they just keep it free for everyone.
- What is a fast split?
- A fast split runs on a GPU and usually finishes in under 5 minutes per song. Each account gets 5 fast splits per day. Slower splits run on CPU (30–60 minutes) and are unlimited.
- What happens when I use my 5 fast splits?
- Your fast splits reset every day, so you get 5 more tomorrow. In the meantime you can keep using the slower (CPU) lane, which is unlimited. A failed split is never counted.
- How can I support the project?
- Two ways: a one-off donation through Paystack (card or mobile money) via the “Support the project” button in the app, or a monthly pledge on Patreon. Both are optional.
- What counts as one split?
- Separating one audio file on the fast (GPU) lane uses one of your 5 daily fast splits. Slow (CPU) splits and the 30-second preview are always free and never count.
- How many stems do I get?
- Four by default: vocals, drums, bass, and other. You can choose six instead, which adds guitar and piano. Both options are free for everyone, and you pick after you press “Split stems”. The piano stem is experimental and can bleed into the other track.
- Is my music stored?
- Uploaded audio is processed and deleted from our servers within 24 hours. Separated stems are optionally saved to your own Google Drive.
- Can I use the app outside Ghana?
- Yes. The app is free and works worldwide. Donations are optional and separate from using the app.
